  • What is R-Value?

R-value measures an insulating material's ability to resist heat flow. A higher r-value indicates greater insulating effectiveness. It is determined by the material's thickness, installed weight per square foot, and type. The minimum building code requires an r-value of 30. The department of energy recommends a minimum r-value of 38 for homes with gas furnaces and 49 for those with electric furnaces.
  • Do I need to remove existing insulation?

In most cases, removal of existing insulation is not necessary. Adding new insulation on top of the existing material will increase the overall r-value. However, in rare instances where mold growth or other issues are present, removal may be required. The wise attic can assist in determining if insulation removal is necessary for your specific situation.
  • Why our blown-in insulation (CertainTeed)?

CertainTeed insulation is an optimal choice for maintaining a healthy home environment. It is engineered to resist rodents and pests, inhibit fungus and mold growth, and has earned GREENGUARD certification. This certification confirms that CertainTeed meets stringent third-party chemical emissions standards, making it safe for use in sensitive environments such as schools, daycares, and hospitals. By minimizing indoor air pollution and chemical exposure risks, CertainTeed contributes to creating healthier indoor spaces.

  • I have lots of insulation. Do I need an attic fan?

Regardless of the amount of insulation present in your attic, installing an attic fan can significantly improve climate control efficiency. This addition can also lead to substantial energy cost savings. An attic fan complements existing insulation by enhancing overall attic temperature regulation.
